Jake STILL needs emergency surgery!

Organized by jessica freni

Wednesday, July 27 Update
Jake remains in ICU. He is missed terribly at home, we are all thinking of him often and hoping he comes home soon!

Tomorrow is a big day- the drainage tubes from the septic abdomen is suppose to come out!

So far, Jakey is off the IV pain meds and antibiotics and has switched to oral.

I'm told he is resting a lot and is comfortable. He has a nice big crate with comfy blankies filled with cards from some of his well wishers- we appreciate your sending good vibes!

If you wish to send Jake a Get Well card in ICU:

A 3rd Surgery
Jake was rushed back to NEAMC today. He took a turn for the worse. He had been recovering wonderfully and this came on suddenly. He is septic again, he needs a third emergency surgery. The surgery is in progress now and will hopefully determine the root of his septic abdomen. We have seen a true miracle thus far and are praying he remains a strong little fighter and the doctors have steady hands guided by God to save his life once more. Will update when we have news. Thank you all for your generosity, prayers and words of encouragement- each and every single one is hugely appreciated.

Update 7/19/2011
Jake had a good first night post surgery last night, nurses even took him outside for a brief potty walk. His dad is amazing and worked from 6pm until 9am for overtime to help with the expenses of Jake's surgeries and aftercare.

Today we were able to visit with Jake briefly at New England Animal Medical Center in West Bridgewater, MA. He could not come out of ICU and we could not visit with him but through the crate. It was so, so difficult to not be able to hold him, but I gave him a kiss from each of you through the bars. He was awake and up. He gave gave us a warm Boston terrier wiggly-butt greeting, but quickly turned to crying and wimpering. It was tough on us all, so we did not linger so as not to stress and upset him.

6pm Update: Vets report Jake is doing better than we'd expect and recovering remarkably well for a dog of his age having had two major, emergency surgeries in one day. He could not keep breakfast down, but was able to eat and keep down a small afternoon meal. He is on an IV drip to manage his pain. He has two tubes draining his septic abdomen, but if there are no complications and he is continuing as well tomorrow, they hope to remove the tubes.

We may have Jake home to recover as soon as Thursday if he can eat/go potty on his own and there are no complications. Please continue to send him prayers.

Thank You All for Your Continued Support
Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts, we are truly overwhelmed by your generosity. Each and every one of you who have opened your hearts and your wallets to save one very special old dog is appreciated more than words could begin to express.

Jake made it through two very difficult surgeries today. He is a trooper, he's determined to make it and we're determined to find a way.

During surgery this morning his intestines ruptured near his pancreas in two places. The surgery to repair the damage was risky with many possible complications made more difficult by his breed and age. Jake has had 7" of his small intestines removed and tubes put in to drain his septic abdomen. His two emergency surgeries were very costly as is his ICU care, but he is a little dog with a bright future and a happy life ahead.

Jake is not out of the woods yet and still needs your help. Your prayers and words of encouragement have truly made a world of difference and helped us get through a couple of very, very difficult days.

Jake is blessed to have so many wonderful, generous guardian angels! We will continue to update on his progress and hope to have him home soon- everything- our home and our family- seems a little sadder and emptier without his frosty face, crinkle-ear and lighting bolt stubby tail.
